For more than twenty years, I have had Land Rover Dreams.
The first time I saw a fully loaded, expeditionary equipped Defender driving in the sand, I was hooked on Land Rovers.
So far, I have owned six Defenders, and I still have three that are ready for action - ready to live my dreams.
I had my first three Defenders in Saudi Arabia. I customized them for expeditionary travel with full length roof racks, long range fuel tanks, and two spare tires. These awesome vehicles took us out in the desert nearly every weekend eight months out of the year. We camped in the desert between sixty and ninety nights annually using our Defenders.
Now I'm down to three Defenders. One is parked in New Zealand, one in Australia, and one in North America. They have roof racks, two spare tires, a complete set of spare parts, and they are ready to go.
One day I want to load one or two of them into a container and ship them to Africa for a driving trip around the world.
Now is the hard part - the waiting.
Everyday I ask myself when I should start living my dreams. I already know the answer. I should do it now.
But it's not as easy as that. I have other dreams I'm working on as well. I have websites to build, podcasts to create, DVD's to distribute, books to publish, and a Positive Thinking Network to promote. I also have a day job that requires forty hours per week.
I've got too many dreams and not enough time. I've got enough dreams to last three lifetimes.
To every dream, there's a time and a place, and right now my Land Rover Dreams aren't at the top of my list.
I've got other dreams that demand my full attention, and that's ok. As long as I am living at least one of my dreams, my life is worth living.

Flying fish assault Exit Only in the middle of the night as we sail through the Arabian Gulf from the Maldives to Oman. And so begins our Red Sea adventures.
Sailing through Pirate Alley between Yemen and Somalia involves calculated risk. It may not be Russian Roulette, but it is a bit of a worry. Follow Team Maxing Out as they navigate through Pirate Alley.
Stopping in Yemen was just what the doctor ordered. We refueled, repaired our alternator, and we made friends with our gracious Yemeni hosts. We also went to Baskins Robbins as a reward for surviving Pirate Alley.
After you survive Pirate Alley, you must sail through the Gate of Sorrows (Bab Al Mandab) at the southern entrance to the Red Sea. The Gate of Sorrows lived up to its name with fifty knots of wind and a sandstorm that pummeled Exit Only for two days. Life is good.
